Ipswich Underground

The Shamrock

The Shamrock is an Underground refuge and our local watering hole ; where the pints are good, the atmosphere’s home, and the people behind the bar are more like family than staff.

There’s rarely a bad night at The Sham. Musicians spill out into the corners, strangers become instant drinking buddies, and the place just has that kind of energy you can’t manufacture.

Every Friday night they host legendary live music nights, with long-running sessions packed with local talent, familiar faces and glorious fun on the dancefloor.

Every third Thursday, the pub leans into the soul of things with their much-loved Blues Night which is definitely worth going along too.

They also pour one of the best Guinnesses in town.

Our favourite bar in Ipswich.

On the corner of Tacket Street, it sits on the edge of Ipswich’s historic Saints quarter, amongst one of the oldest and most character-filled parts of town.

Before becoming The Shamrock, the building lived several past lives as bars and restaurants tied to Ipswich’s long drinking and waterfront culture.

The Sham itself opened in 2015, but feels like one of those pubs that’s always existed and the sort of place people instinctively drift towards.
